That’s right. After a 10 year hiatus, Fort Minor is finally releasing their first new single since The Rising Tied.
Fort Minor, which if you’re not familiar with it, is the hip-hop solo project of Linkin Park founder Mike Shinoda. While it never took off like Linkin Park, the single “Where’d You Go” did reach number 4 on the Billboard Hot 100 list. That was back in 2006.
In March of 2015, Shinoda started updating Fort Minor’s presence on social media and teased an upcoming announcement, culminating in the June 21 release of the brand new single “Welcome”, which is available now as a free download from the Fort Minor web site.
Additionally, Shinoda worked with The Uprising Creative to produce an innovative 360-degree music video using four GoPro cameras. When viewed on Google Chrome or the YouTube mobile app, you can change the viewpoint in any direction. It’s pretty cool and the video itself is interesting, showing Shinoda painting a mural on a 12×80 foot canvas in Venice Beach.
Although in the note that accompanies the download, Shinoda states that this song is NOT a part of a new album, I’m still hoping and waiting for a new album. But this single will tied me over until then (see what I did there?)
