iOS 7.1.1 Jailbreak Finally! But....

iOS 7.1.1 has been jailbroken finally! And yet….I’m not sure if I’m going to do it. Which would be a first.

A team of Chinese hackers released the new jailbreak app called PanGu for Windows (no mention of an OSX version release date). However, there is more controversy than usual for several reasons.

1) Apparently the hackers based their jailbreak around vulnerabilities identified by jailbreak community star i0n1c, disclosed during an iOS security training class. They apparently did NOT have i0n1c’s blessing in any way.

2) i0n1c has indicated that he had the ability to jailbreak 7.1.1 several months ago, but held back releasing a public jailbreak, presumably because he was waiting to see if the vulnerability would remain in place for the upcoming iOS 8.

3) The jailbreak came from a Chinese hacking team, the program installs a piracy app store by default, and the dialogs are completely in Chinese. (you can decline to install the piracy app store)

So….I’m a little concerned about this jailbreak, although I normally go where angels fear to tread. Also, I’m kind of PO’d because these guys most likely have crapped all over the jailbreak community because they wanted to make a name for themselves. If this means that i0n1c and his colleagues will have to start from scratch to develop an iOS 8 jailbreak….thanks a lot guys….jerks.
